Does the automated blood pressure monitor measure blood pressure accurately?
How and when should blood pressure be measured at home?
As a co-author of the Protocol of the European Society of Hypertension for the validation of blood pressure monitors and through my involvement in the recent revision of the European Guidelines on Arterial Hypertension, the great extent of the problem became evident. Out of 3000 blood pressure monitors on the worldwide market, 86% is NOT validated! Therefore, their accuracy remains unknown.
Furthermore, mistakes on how and when blood pressure is measured at home, may be an even bigger issue than an unreliable blood pressure monitor.
Blood pressure measurements at home are now considered necessary for the correct assessment and control of hypertension.
Have a blood pressure device evaluated by a specialised doctor, based on international protocols, and let yourself be informed about the correct way and the appropriate home measurement schedule.
Simple, yet crucial actions for your health!
